After the initial postponement, the day for the Cabrera Cup Tournament finally arrived, bringing with it much needed sunshine for the spectators, if not the players!
We were however very short on numbers this time, so we introduced a new format, with each drawn couple playing the other 3. This also meant that everyone would qualify for the semi-finals, so there was lots of tennis to be played, broken up by a wonderful lunch hosted by the Middletons as always, what would we do without them!
So let´s introduce the players!
By 10 o´clock, the Tournament was underway, and after some pretty intense matches, all the group matches were completed before lunch, with the scores on the doors as follows:-
Next up … Lunch, with a test as to everyone´s competitiveness and will power not to down some vino before the semi finals!
Plus some time for the Club´s President, David R, to sort out the semi finals!

At 2:30 the semi-finals kicked off, avidly watched by a number of spectators, basking in the afternoon sunshine and the entertainment.
And the Outcome…….
Benke & Sam beat Frank & Dawn 6-2, &
Ollie & Sjan beat David & Lynda, by the same score, coincidentally!
Our Finalists....
And what a riveting final it was. The ultimate score of 6-3 really doesn’t say just how close it was, with many of the games going to deuce, multiple times….with some fantastic rallies & shots being played by both sides, much to the ooh´s & aah´s of those of us watching for close to an hour!
Finally Sam and Benke won the day, and will get to take the much coveted trophy home with them…. both having their names added to it for the first time!
Without much ado, we all headed back to Lynda & David´s to polish of the food and vino, and for the presentation trophy, which was a little delayed as Sam & Ollie had to go home to give their four legged friends some much needed attention, but, not knowing the tournament etiquette, to change out of their tennis gear…. all before the photoshoot, oops!!!
Another wonderful day was had by all, and on behalf of all those involved, the Club would like to give a huge thank you to Lynda & David Middleton for hosting the lunch and celebrations again.
David & Chantal for organising it, with the help of our new Social Secretary, Jacqui, who will be organising the next one, so watch this space, and of course to Chantal for this hopefully witty blog & photos!
