What a fun day!

The Tournament kicked off at 9:30 under glorious blue skies, the round robin matches brought about lots of great shots, and oohs and arghs from the spectators, as everyone fought hard to maximise their points in the hope of reaching the semi-finals.

With some relief from the heat, 13:00 brought a break for a wonderful lunch, hosted (again) by the Middletons, and with everyone bringing a range of fantastic & varied dishes such as chickpea curry, South African baboutie, chillie, different types of salads, and the obligatory chocolate brownies (laced with brandy to assist in the afternoon’s play!)
After full tummies and a couple more matches, the Round Robin came to a close with the following results:
From the Red Team, the No.1 Lady was Chantal with 11 points, and No2. Lady was Lynda with 8 points. From the Gents, David Middleton & Frank drew for the no 1 spot and after 3 games of singles, David claimed the top spot, Frank as No 2
From the Green Team, Sue achieved a massive 16 points, thereby claiming No.1 lady with Sjan a close second with 13 points. Luis also got a massive 16 points so was No 1 Gent, David R and Keith also drawing for the No 2 spot, with David winning their subsequent singles match to grab the last spot in the Semi-Finals.
Without further ado, the first of the semi-finals commenced between Luis & Chantal and Sjan & Frank, with Sjan & Frank winning their set 6 games to 2, Luis & Chantal just couldn’t bring home the sudden death points on deuce. The next match saw Sue & David M bring home their spot in the finals against David R and Lynda.

So, with the spectators fighting over the shady spots around the Court, the finalists gathered their wits and strength to play their final set in the blistering heat. Although the scores don’t show it, Sjan & Frank put up a valiant fight against Sue & David M, but they were playing the best they played all day and were unstoppable, bringing the trophy home with a score of 6-0, Congratulations!
So with no further ado, we all headed back to the Middleton’s to celebrate, and of course polish of the food and vino not quite consumed at lunchtime.

The fabulous day finally came to a close at who knows what time, after all the food and vino had well & truly been consumed….
The Committee would like to thank everyone who took part, players and spectators alike, without whom the day would not have been such a success.
